How IGA celebrates Mardi Gras

The 43rd Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade is taking place on Saturday 6th March, showcasing the LGBTQI+ culture and community. At the IGA Locals Matter Program, we love to celebrate and support our diverse communities.

We spoke to one of our stores, who for years have been at the heart of the parade, to share with you how they will be celebrating this year.

IGA Darlinghurst is located on Oxford street, where the parade usually takes place. The owners and employees of the store always enjoy supporting their customers in the lead up to and during this annual celebration. You’ll notice that the store is filled with rainbow streamers, flags and balloons to light up the store and fill it with colour.

Everyone’s in the party mood once Mardi Gras arrives, so essentials like bottled water and energy drinks to keep everyone hydrated are available in bulk displays, along with some typical party treats on special offer.

Rainbow iced cupcakes are bought in specially for the event. This year, the store is supporting Darrell Lea’s partnership with Qlife, by dressing the front window to display the temporary rename, Darrell Lea Loves Allsorts. A percentage from the sales of each limited edition pack will be donated back to QLife, an essential service that supports the community.
