Help to save a life community competition

To help raise awareness of the importance of heart health and to encourage our community to prioritise theirs, the Locals Matter Program ran a competition in February to donate a life saving defibrillator to a community that needs it.

In Australia, over 33,000 people experience a cardiac arrest outside of a hospital each year, and less than 9% of those survive. A defibrillator can be used by anyone (they have verbal and visual instructions) to deliver a controlled electrical shock to somebody experiencing cardiac arrest, to help save their life.

We asked you to share stories of your community groups or local businesses, and why they deserve a HeartSine 360P Defibrillator available on their premises . Thank you to everyone who entered, the response was amazing: Locals Matter Community Program Facebook Competition

Congratulations to our winner, Kirsty Bellabe, who runs an over 50’s group fitness class at her local community hall in Dundowran. Kirsty encourages her 200+ members to put their health and fitness first by running 3 fun and fast paced classes per week. The community hall is used by various other community groups each week who will also benefit from having access to the defibrillator.
