Support the clean up of Australia this year

Our household waste is growing, and so is the litter across our streets, beaches and communities. The IGA Locals Matter Program is always looking for great initiatives and practical solutions to help and encourage us all to support our planet.

1 in 2 Australian households have self-identified as producing more packaging waste during lockdown periods compared to previous years, and more than 55% have reported that they’re now more concerned about product packaging waste that they were in 2019. Over the past year, reusable coffee cups became a no go, takeaway food became more popular, and disposable masks and wipes are now a must-have.

This year, Clean Up Australia Day is being held on Sunday 7th March, with the aim of inspiring and empowering communities to clean up, fix up and conserve our environment. If you, your business, your school or your community register a Clean Up for 7th March, you will receive your free Clean Up kit to help you carry out your Clean Up safely and efficiently!

Since Clean Up Australia began 30 years ago, 18.3M+ Australians and 36M hrs of volunteer time has been donated to Clean Up activities to benefit our environment, with 380,000+ Ute loads of rubbish being removed. However, it’s just just about a single day! Clean Up Australia encourages all Australians to make a pledge towards reducing their own waste contribution. This could be stepping up and saying no to plastic straws, investing in a reusable waterway, starting a compost or choosing not to purchase fast fashion. However you’re going to Step Up, you can share it using #StepUpToCleanUp. To be part of this fantastic initiative, register your Clean Up, or to find out more, head to cleanup.org.au
