Join Australia’s 7 day plastic pledge
Every year, KAB focuses on one environmental theme, aimed to inspire communities to reduce waste and prevent litter.
This year, they’re putting plastic in the spotlight. Sadly, plastic that ends up in nature can take up to 500 years to decompose, harming animals that ingest it or become entangled in it. It can also break up into microplastics and find its way into our food chain. Our beautiful country needs protecting, so let’s help!
We want to help KAB engage all Aussies to care for our environment and prevent biodiversity loss, while creating an inspired community who build awareness of plastic pollution and litter. So, in the lead up to KAB Week 2021 which commences on 16th August, we’re supporting KAB in calling on all Aussies to make a pledge on how they intend to reduce plastic use for the week, or better still, for good!
You can do this by choosing to replace some every-day plastic items with reusable options for the entire week, here are some suggestions:
- Coffee cups and lids (you can use a reusable cup instead)
- Takeaway packaging (bring your own container)
- Single-use cutlery (bring your own cutlery or eat at home)
- Plastic bottles (you can use a reusable bottle instead)
- Packaged fruit and vegetables (buy loose fruit and veggies)
- Face masks (replace with reusable ones)
- Cotton buds (buy plastic free ones instead)
Then, share your pledge to KAB by recording a short video of which items you plan to give up for the 7 day challenge, and submit it on their website to be entered into their prize draw!
To encourage our community to get involved, we’re giving away an IGA gift card to one lucky nominee who does a lot to keep their community clean and tidy! The competition will be live on the IGA Facebook page from the 11th of August for one week, so keep your eyes peeled!
