Lunar New Year is just around the corner, and a huge calendar event for many communities. This year, it’s kicking off on 12th February with the first new moon of the Lunar calendar, and ends 15 days later on the first full moon.
There’s nothing IGA’s independent store owners love more than to support their community and deliver the best of what’s on offer. Many of our stores celebrate Lunar New Year, so to recognise the event Locals Matter wanted to share how a couple of them will be helping their community to mark the special occasion.
Gift giving is an important tradition at Luna New Year, with friends, family and partners all exchanging gifts, often in the symbolic colours of red, yellow and gold. At the Thai Kee IGA Xpress in Haymarket, Sydney, specially curated traditional hampers are on sale, as well as traditional Radish Cakes and Glutinous Rice Cakes from Golden Century Chinatown which symbolise good luck and fortune. All of these delicious gifts are available exclusively for the celebration.
