Biodegradable Products:
• Use materials that break down due to microorganism.
• These materials are designed for home or industrial composting.
Non-Biodegradable Products:
• Materials that do not break down due to microorganisms.
• These materials are designed for landfill.
What is the difference between Bio-Based vs. Fossil Fuel-Based materials?
Bio-Based Materials:
• Materials that are renewably sourced.
• Materials in this category perform identically to conventional plastics, but have a renewable source, i.e. corn, sugarcane, etc.
• Materials in this category are renewable and return to the earth under the right conditions.
Fossil Fuel-Based Materials:
• Materials that come from petroleum or natural gas.
• Materials in this category include traditional plastics, recycled plastics, and ‘oxo-degradable’ materials.
• Materials in this category have a similar end state to the above but are sourced from fossil fuels.
