Kendall Lette’s Journey

Kendall Lette, a schoolteacher from Brisbane, knew that something wasn’t right in her body but never expected it to be breast cancer. At only 31 years old, and working as a visual arts teacher, Kendall was busy enjoying life like any young woman. Living with her partner and with a new leadership position at her school, breast cancer was the last thing on her mind. However, at the end of last year, she started feeling amiss and couldn’t put her finger on what it was.

Blood tests done with her GP came back normal and the feeling was brushed off as nothing to worry about. In the shower a couple of weeks later Kendall had the urge to check her breasts and found a lump. A subsequent ultrasound and biopsy revealed that it was breast cancer. Suddenly, life became incredibly clinical and frightening.

Kendall had to undergo a lumpectomy at only 31 years old, lost her beautiful hair and started IVF treatment, fast tracking a decision her and her partner thought they had years to make. Her previously stable and carefree life was thrown into turmoil as she experienced hardships rare for someone so young.

Throughout her experience, Kendall was supported by McGrath Breast Care Nurse Melissa Gosper at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Melissa called Kendall at her lowest point, the day after diagnosis when Kendall was trying to reckon with what this would mean for her future. Since then, Melissa has been by her side every step of the way and has supported Kendall through her diagnosis and treatment.
